Happy New Year to Everyone!
Mary's e-mail requesting newsletter information brought me back to reality with a thump! I was enjoying the very randomness of the holidays with no schedules and no meetings. A bit of work and a bit of sewing and lots of down time. I hope all of you have enjoyed the Christmas time and your 2011 is off to a good start.
I would like to thank Irene for having us all over for tea, it was fun. I delayed my trip so I could make it this year, glad I did.
We are off to an exciting start with our meeting in the new building and new ideas. Should I put a notice with directions at the former meeting place in case we can't retrain our vehicles to go to the new building on Donaldson? The building has been nice and warm and there has been no trouble with snow removal, so far so good.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at 7 on the 11th.
I would like to challenge everyone to bring a UFO to the first meeting. We will record each of them and then challenge ourselves to finish them for our quilt show this year. We can have a special section in the show for these UFOs and rewards.

Focus on Fibre Building

We have the building booked for Tuesdays so how about we kick the new year off with a work party. Worker bees are needed for a bit of painting and to lay the flooring that we have so far. Then it will be ready for our first meeting on the 11th. We could use 5 or 6 people for this bee. Please RSVP to Rae or Mary.

Gallery 2
is having Brown Bag Theatre again, dates are January 20th, 21st, and 22nd. These short plays are awesome, I have taken the time to see most of them. I plan my downtown shopping around them, they average about 15 to 20 minutes and the cost is only $5.00. The same play is held over the 3 days. The are called Brown Baf cus they are held during lunch and you can bring you lunch and watch the play while you eat. There is coffee and tea to purchase. The main front door of the building will be open for the plays.

December News

Executive News

Merry Christmas to everyone!
The Fall season seems to have flown by, here we are near the end of the year with the snow on the ground and the Christmas season beginning. American Thanksgiving always starts the flurry of advertising for Christmas which makes it feel closer.
Our Christmas party will be on Dec. 7th, Tuesday evening. It will begin with dinner at the Honey Dew restaurant at 5:30 p.m. We will be ordering individually off the menu as we were a few short of the 25 in order to have the buffet. After dinner we will move the party over to the hall for a silent auction, games, coffee and tea. Proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Community Hamper Fund.
So bring anything from your sewing room that you are finished with and you think someone else could use for the silent auction.
If any of you are inspired to bring some sweets for dessert that would be nice to have with our coffee.
Bring three fat quarters for a fat quarter exchange and three (more) fat quarters if you want to buy into the dice game. Stephanie has another game that you can play for free.
A fun way to end off 2010 so make sure you put it on your calandar, see you there!
If you have any requests for meeting activities and/or projects for our in-guild days then make sure you let me know so we can include it in our plans for next year.
Happy New Year,
Rae

Corrections to the Pattern for the Guild Name Label: Sunflower Dresden Plate
When you became a paid member of the guild, the directions and pattern for the Sunflower Dresden Plate guild Name Label were handed out to you.
Unfortunately the pattern that was scanned became reduced in size when it was printed. The pattern for the petal (Template A) should be 1 3/4" total height and 1 3/4" wide at the top edge. The centre for the Dresden Plate can be left as is or just increased by 1/8" all around.
A new page will soon be loaded on the blog with the complete instructions.

November News

Executive News

We are trying to make the evening meetings less business and more fun.  November 9th meeting will feature three 'technique stations' that everyone will get a chance to learn something different at.  If you have any request for activities or ideas for the new year please let me know, thanks.

There are only two pieces of business to discuss:
 1.  a vote on what to do about out meeting place, this will be done by written ballot.
2.  to think about and decide is what to do for our Christmas party.  We have the evening of Dec 7th booked at the hall.  A silent auction like last year has been suggested with the money going to the hamper fund so start deciding what you are finished with from your sewing room if this is what you want to do.  I have a fun game we could play with fat quarters. Do we want food? pot luck?  go out to eat before the fun??????? bring all your ideas and we will decide.
That’s it, the rest of the news is elsewhere in this newsletter so keep reading!
see you Nov.9th 7pm

November Events
Business Meeting - Tuesday, November 9, 7:00 p.m.
In-Guild Day - Tuesday, November 23, 9:00 a.m.
November In-Guild
In guild day is November 23rd. Marg Koide and Mary Cadman will be instructing in some creative surface design techniques. They will do a demo followed by hands on creation of your own fabric pieces.

Supplies will be available for your use. Bring tools to make interesting shapes on fabric, an old potatoe masher or cookie cutters are a couple of examples. We will be working with PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric but if you want to play on top of commercial fabrics you could bring some of your own along. You might want to bring an apron...

We will play in the morning and you can do your own projects in the afternoon.

Guild Meeting Place

At the November 9th business meeting there will be a discussion, followed by a vote on where we should hold our guild meetings. The choices are a) the Senior’s Hall in the park b) Fibre Focus building on Donaldson or c) stay where we are.  Members who cannot make the meeting should advise the executive of their vote by emailing Rae at rayele@telus.net.

Comfort and Rotoplast Quilts
